WELLINGTON, BERITALINGKUNGAN.COM – The latest survey results in New Zealand reveal that glaciers in the country continue to shrink significantly.
According to a report from the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research, the glaciers have suffered severe damage due to long-term ice loss.
Aerial photos taken by helicopter on March 24, 2024, as released by Xinhua (04/04/2024), depict the scenery of Fox Glacier on the west coast of the South Island, New Zealand. In these images, it is evident how dramatically the glacier has shrunk.
The trend of glacier retreat is a serious concern, especially considering its impact on global climate change. This condition can also have serious implications for the environment and communities relying on the water resources from these glaciers.
The New Zealand government and environmental organizations must take concrete steps to address the damage to these glaciers before it’s too late (Wan)
